Process Quality Control – Average and Standard Deviation
After completion the student should be able to: 1. calculate the average and standard deviation of a set of data; 2. understand that the average of a set of data is the level or center line of the data; 3. understand that the standard deviation is the scatter or variability of the data around the average; 4. understand +1, +2 and +3 standard deviation bands; 5. master two methods of calculating standard deviation, one better for manual calculation and the second easier for use with a calculator; 6. calculate the expected percentage of data within specification limits; 7. calculate the change in the percentage of data expected within specification limits when the process average shifts off aim and 8. understand the effect of reducing process variability on product quality.
Prerequisites: Basic math skills including square root.
