Filtration – Plate and Frame Filter Presses
Terms specific to the filtration process, what filtration is, and the operating parts of the plate and frame filter press systems; the design of plates and frames and flow of materials through them; the effect of filter cake buildup on the pressure and flow rates; filter cake removal; various washing procedures with flows of each; the purposes and effects of filter aids and how they are applied; four common filter aids; diagrams of plant layouts for application of filter aids; limitations of filter aid use; and the use of filtration to recover valuable solids, liquids, or both.
Prerequisites: Use of simple sketches.
